Seattle, Wash. – Ku Stevens finished second in the Men's 5000m, becoming the fourth fastest 3000m runner in WSU history, as 10 Cougs set personal bests on the first day of the Husky Classic. Brenda Kibor also put herself in the record book, setting the fifth fastest 3000m time in WSU history. Washington State started their weekend at Dempsey Indoor with a bang as many athletes set personal bests in a competitive field.
Ku Stevens was the highlight of the day for the Cougs, finishing on the podium in second with a personal best 5000m time of 13 minutes and 46.97 seconds. His time is now fourth in WSU history, an impressive feat for the junior.
Brenda Kibor had the fastest WSU time in the Women's 3000m finishing in 20th with a personal best time of 9 minutes and 23.89 seconds. Mercy Biwott, Nicole Bissell, and Maya Nichols also set personal bests in the race finishing in 29th, 31st, and 37th respectively.
Eric Swedin was the only Coug to participate in the Men's 3000m today, finishing with a personal best time of 8 minutes and 19.26 seconds.
All three runners in the Women's 5000m set personal bests. Kylah Madariaga was the fastest of the three finishing in 16 minutes and 39.67 seconds. Newcomer Vicody Chepngetich and Taylor Sletner were the others in the race finishing in 23rd and 30th.
The Cougs will continue today at the Husky Classic with more Cougs competing in the remainder of track events.
