SALT LAKE CITY (Feb. 14, 2026) – After dropping the opening doubles point, the Washington State tennis team captured three singles matches but came up just short as Utah came away with a 4-3 victory Saturday at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.
 
With the loss, the Cougars fall to 3-3 on the season while Utah improves to 5-1.
 
Utah came out strong, sweeping all three doubles matches to capture the opening point. At No. 3, Dylan Lolofie and Andjelika Markovic was first off with a 6-1 win over WSU's Martina Puvill and Ava-Monet Sycamore while the point was clinched at No. 2, where Utah's Sara Akid and Emmie Moore rallied from 3-5 down to complete a 7-5 victory over Eva Alvarez Sande and Yura Nakagawa. At No. 1, Utah's Emma Kamper and Emma Valletta posted a 7-5 win over Maxine Murphy and Chisato Kanemaki.
 
In singles play, Akid pushed the Utah lead to 2-0 following a 6-2, 6-2 win over Puvill at No. 4. The Cougars tied the match at 2-2 as Sycamore completed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Lolofie at No. 6 and Murphy defeated Moore 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2.
 
Utah clinched the team victory when Kaila Barksdale posted a 6-1, 6-4 win over Nakagawa on Court 3, giving Utah a 4-2 lead with one match remaining. At No. 1, Alvarez Sande and Kamper split the first two sets, with Kamper winning the first, 7-6, and Alvarez Sande taking the second, 6-3. With the team outcome decided, a 10-point tiebreaker was played with Alvarez Sande winning, 10-4.
 
The Cougars return home Friday, Feb. 20 to host Portland State and Hollingbery Fieldhouse. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
