PROVO, Utah (Feb. 13, 2026) – Senior Eva Alvarez Sande captured a straight-set win at No. 1 singles but it was all BYU the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 victory over Washington State Friday afternoon at the BYU Indoor Tennis Facility.
 
The loss drops WSU's record to 3-2 on the season, while BYU improves to 8-1.
 
The day began with doubles where BYU captured all three matches to earn the opening point. At No. 3 BYU's Bella Lewis and Sue Yan Tan posted a 6-2 win over Martina Puvill and Ava-Monet Sycamore. The top two matches went down to the wire as BYU's Kendall Kovick and Yuyun Chen captured a late break of serve to defeat Alvarez Sande and Yura Nakagawa, 6-4, clinching the doubles point. At No. 1, WSU's Maxine Murphy and Chisato Kanemaki led 5-4 but did not close it out as BYU's Gracie Levelston and Karina Mohamed won the final three games for a 7-5 victory.
 
In singles play, Alvarez Sande came away with a solid victory over BYU's Levelston at No. 1 singles. The WSU senior rode breaks of serve in each set for the 6-3, 6-3 win. BYU captured straight- set wins on Courts 2-4 to seal the team victory. At No. 2, Kovick broke a 3-3 tie in the first set by winning nine of the next 10 games on her way to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Murphy.
 
On Court 3, Yan Tan came away with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Nakagawa  while Chen needed a first-set tiebreaker to defeat Puvill at No. 4, 7-6, 6-3. At No. 5, Kanemaki forced a third-set tiebreaker before falling to Sage Bergeson, 6-3, 6-7, 10-6, and after winning the first set against Lewis, Sycamore couldn't hold on in a 3-6, 7-6, 10-4 loss.
 
WSU is next in action Saturday at 10 a.m. PT when they face Utah in Salt Lake City.
