BOISE, Idaho – The Washington State soccer team concluded the 2026 season with a 1-0 loss to Boise State, Thursday evening, at Boas Soccer Complex. Senior goalkeeper Ashlyn Dvorak delivered seven saves, including five saves in a scoreless first half before the Broncos scored the game-winner in the 77th minute.

After early jitters in the opening 10 minutes, the Cougars settled into a possession-based game, controlling the offensive flow and forcing the conference-leading Broncos into off-balance shots from tough angles. WSU delivered seven first-half shots to BSU’s six, while Dvorak denied a point-blank strike in the 39th minute to notch her biggest save of the night.

Boise native and junior Emma Widmor shined in the return to hometown, delivering a pair of second-half shots and controlling the pace of play through the left channel. Widmor served a 37th-minute cross to freshman Delaney Hawkins, who hammered into the Boise State goalkeeper at point-blank range.

The Cougars controlled 54 percent of possession, and returned from halftime on the front foot, fighting for the opening goal. In the 55th minute, Calli Holje stood over a freekick near the corner flag, driving an in-swinging shot into the 6-yard box, into the arms of the BSU GK, and just short of a pair of WSU heads.

“What a game in what was potentially our best performance of the season,” WSU Head Coach Chris Citowicki said postgame. “I’m just disappointed that it didn’t fall our way."

With 20 minutes remaining, junior Reagan Brisendine curled a free kick from 20 yards out around the Broncos’ wall before being denied again by the BSU ‘keeper. The Boise State goal came seven minutes later from a left-footed 25-yard strike from the center of the pitch into the bottom right corner past a diving Dvorak.

Dvorak shined once more in the final five minutes, denying an 85th-minute strike that was curling away from her and toward the far post. The outstretched senior corralled the ball and played quickly up the field. Widmor had one final header on goal but could not sneak it past a BSU team which has allowed just seven goals this season.

“The growth that we have seen from this team since last January and over the past couple months is extraordinary,” Citowicki added. “I cannot wait to get back to work next year. Lots to come.”
