Stanford, Calif. (Oct. 8, 2026) – Washington State Tennis won their doubles play with ease, earning their way to day two of ITA Northwest Regionals Doubles Championship at the Arrillaga Tennis Center.
Yura Nakagawa and Gabriella Harper started the Cougars’ day with doubles, taking an 8-1 win over their Eastern Washington opponents. Chisato Kanemaki and Clara Schön also defeated their opponents in doubles, finishing 8-4 over San Jose State.
Harper opened singles play for the Cougs defeating Seattle U 6-1, 6-3. Kanemaki, ranked eighth won her match against Portland State, with a simple 6-1, 6-3 final.
Schön battled it out against her Oregon opponent in a three-set match ultimately falling to the No. 2 seed Montserrat Marron-Baruqui, 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 6-3. Harper fell to her second singles opponent after going through a tiebreaker in the first set, ending with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 loss to third seed, Ramey Yu from UC Davis. Kanemaki won the final match of the day beating her Portland opponent, 6-2, 6-4.
Nakagawa earned a bye and will start her singles play on Oct. 9, at 1 p.m.
Ava-Monet Sycamore retired from the first set after suffering an injury in her match against San Jose State.
