CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Washington State men’s golf team finished tied for fifth at the Oregon State Invitational Tuesday at Trysting Tree Golf Club, completing the 54-hole tournament at 9-under, 843.
The Cougars entered Tuesday’s final round in fourth place at 9-under after opening the tournament with rounds of 280 and 279 Monday. WSU carded an even-par 284 in the final round to finish tied with Utah State for fifth in the 12-team field. Oregon captured the team title at 17-under, while Boise State finished second at 12-under. Eastern Washington and host Oregon State tied for third at 10-under.
Garrett Harrison led the Cougars with a season-best finish, tying for fifth at 7-under, 206. Harrison saved his best round of the tournament for Tuesday, firing a 4-under 67, matching his lowest round of the season, to climb seven spots on the leaderboard. Harrison improved each round in Corvallis, posting scores of 70, 69 and 67.
Dylan Boenning finished tied for 19th at 1-under, 212. Boenning opened the tournament with a 2-under 69 before following with rounds of 73 and 70.
Ben Borgida finished 31st at 1-over, 214. Borgida's best round came Monday afternoon when he carded a 3-under 68, before adding rounds of 73 and 73 to complete the tournament.
Dylan Burcham finished tied for 32nd at 2-over, 215, opening the tournament with a 2-under 69 before rounds of 72 and 74.
Jake Goyen rounded out the Cougar lineup, finishing tied for 54th at 5-over, 218. Goyen posted rounds of 72 and 70 Monday before closing with a 76 Tuesday.
Competing as an individual, Finn McCall finished tied for 19th at 1-under, 212. McCall put together the lowest round by a Cougar at the tournament Monday afternoon, firing a 5-under 66 in the second round. The performance put McCall just one shot off the individual lead entering Tuesday's final round.
Oregon won the team title at 17-under, five strokes ahead of Boise State. Boise State's Reese Knox captured the individual title at 9-under.
The Cougars finished ahead of CSUN, Sacramento State, Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, Idaho and Gonzaga in the 12-team field.
Washington State returns to action Oct. 12-13 at The Bryson Invitational.
