PULLMAN, Wash. – WSU women’s soccer freshman forward Delaney Hawkins was named the Pac-12 Conference Newcomer of the Week, the Conference announced Tuesday. Hawkins delivered three goals in the opening weekend of Conference play, netting two goals in the first seven minutes in Thursday’s win over Oregon State, adding a third in Sunday’s victory over Fresno State.
Hawkins, a native of Scottsdale, Arizona, is WSU’s leading goal-scorer with a team-best five goals, tied for fifth in the Pac-12 in scoring. Thursday’s performance marked Hawkins’ first multi-goal game of her career and the first multi-goal game by a Coug this season. She followed with a third goal in conference play in WSU's shutout win over Fresno State, Sunday, picking the pocket of the Bulldogs' defense and calmy finishing for her team-best fifth goal of the season.
A legacy Coug following in the footsteps of her father Adam, Delaney made her first WSU start in the WSU’s August 15 win over South Florida. Hawkins scored her first Cougar goal in the victory and also drew the challenge which earned the Cougs’ the first-half penalty and the early lead.
During nonconference play, Hawkins also delivered the game-winning assist in WSU’s win over UC Irvine, before delivering the insurance goal in the final minute. Hawkins’ goal at 89 minutes and eight seconds is tied for the ninth-latest goal scored by a Coug in regulation in WSU history.

The Cougars and Aggies will kick off at 2 p.m. PT (3 p.m. MT) at Bell Field in the programs’ first meetings as conference foes and third-consecutive season facing each other.
