WSU Claims Four Singles Wins on Day One of Duck Invitational

Eugene, Ore. (Oct. 2, 2026) – The Cougars opened the Duck Invitational with four wins in singles competition at the Student Tennis Center hosted by Oregon, Friday, October 2, 2026.

Washington State started the day against Oregon in doubles, Chisato Kanemaki and Clara Schön beat their Duck opponents 6-1. Yura Nakagawa and Gabriella Harper beat their Portland opponents 6-9 during the second round of doubles.

Schön started the Cougars in singles beating Oregon 6-2, 6-3. Nakagawa and Kanemaki overtook their Gonzaga opponents, both finishing with a win. Harper fought hard against her Gonzaga opponent, splitting the opening sets to force a 10-point tiebreaker, falling 10-8. Ava-Monet Sycamore came out on top against the Bulldogs, finishing 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 to end the first day of the Duck Invitational.

The Cougars continue action at the Duck Invitational, Saturday, October 3, facing Gonzaga in doubles competition. WSU will conclude the day against Portland in singles at noon.
