MIAMI, Fla. – The Washington State men’s golf team started strong at The Bryson Invitational at Doral National Blue, Monday, October 12. The WSU team sits tied in fifth place after the first round with a team score of 294 strokes. Three Cougs ended the day at 2-over par or better, with all three sitting 21st or higher on the leaderboard in the 12-team field.

Redshirt-senior Ben Borgida led the Cougs with a 2-under par 70. Borgida started his round with a birdie on hole one and turned in a scorecard with four birdies to only two bogeys. Borgida mirrored his front-nine 35 with the same score on the back-nine. Borgida will head into the second round sitting in seventh place.

Dylan Boenning overcame a shaky start to finish with a 1-over par 73, as he knocked home four birdies over his final 11 holes to finish with a 1-under par 35 on the back-nine, and the second-best overall round for WSU. The sophomore ended the day tied for 15th place and will take his strong back-nine performance into the second round.

Junior Dylan Burcham battled through a rollercoaster round to finish with a 2-over par 74. Burcham tallied four birdies on the day, tied for the team best, but two double-bogeys on the front-nine inflated his total. Burcham ended his round with two birdies in his final four holes and can take that momentum into the second round on Tuesday. He currently sits tied for 21st place.

Rounding out the WSU team was Finn McCall, as he shot a 5-over par 77. The sophomore scored the second-best front-nine for WSU with a 1-over par 37, but four bogeys on the back-nine cost him. McCall will enter the second round tied for 46th place, looking to get back to his front-nine performance.

Washington State returns to the course tomorrow, Tuesday, October 13, for a 7:30 a.m. (EST) start, in the second round of The Bryson Invitational. Live scoring can be found online at scoreboard.clippd.com. For news about Cougar men’s golf, follow the team on Instagram, X, and Facebook.
