PULLMAN, Wash. (October 10, 2026) – The Washington State women's rowing team got off to a strong start to the 2026-27 season with a pair of first-place finishes at the Head of the Snake Saturday morning.

"Thank you to Gonzaga for coming down to race the Cougs today,” said Head Coach Jane LaRiviere. “The weather was a bit tricky early, but it turned out to be a great day. For our first official race I thought we accomplished the goals set today. We have lots of room for growth and need to make the next couple of weeks count if we want to keep getting faster.”

The day started with the eights pushing off, resulting in the WSU 1V8 finishing with the fastest time of 18:37.10, followed by the Gonzaga 1V8 (18:53.90) in second and the WSU 2V8 in third (19:02.90).

WSU also had the fastest finish among the fours, with the Cougar 2V4 crossing the finish line in a time of 21:36.80, while the Wazzu 1V4 placed second in 21:49.60, the Gonzaga V4 in third (22:04.40) and the WSU 3V4 coming in fourth (22:05.20).

Next weekend, the Cougs continue the fall portion of their schedule at the Head of the Spokane on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Spokane River in Spokane, Washington.
