PULLMAN, Wash. (Jan. 30, 2026) – The Washington State Women's Tennis opened its 2026 home schedule with a 4-0 victory over Fresno State Friday afternoon at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse. The win marked the seventh-straight for the Cougars in the series.
 
The day began with doubles and WSU jumped out quick, winning the first two matches to gain the opening point. At No. 2, WSU' Eva Alvarez Sande and Yura Nakagawa cruised to a 6-2 win over the Bulldog duo of Louna Cormier and Andjela Lopicic before Maxine Murphy and Chisato Kanemaki clinched the opening point for the Cougars with a 6-3 win over Paulina Montiel and Klara Vukicevic. At No. 3, FSU's Eliza Dunbar and Sofia Pizzoni were up a break over Martina Puvill and Ava-Monet Sycamore, 5-3.
 
In singles play WSU won the first three matches in straight sets to clinch the 4-0 victory. WSU improved to 2-0 on the season while Fresno State dropped it's first match, falling to 3-1. Alvarez Sande was first off following a 6-3, 60-1 win over Montiel at No. 2. Murphy followed shortly behind with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Pizzoni at No. 1 before Nakagawa's 6-3, 6-3 win over Lopicic at No. 3 sealed the victory.
 
The remaining three matches were abandoned with the team outcome decided. Puvill was nearing a victory as she led Dunbar 6-2, 5-4 at No. 4, while the other two matches had just started. Vukicevic was leading Kanemaki 2-0 at No. 5 and Sycamore was up 1-0 over Cormier at No. 6
 
The Cougars are next in action Friday when they visit Sacramento State at Noon in Northern California.
