Pullman, Wash. (Sept. 30, 2026) – Cougar Tennis heads to Eugene, Ore. for their third tournament this fall. The WSU tennis team is participating in the Duck Invitational, Oct. 2-4, at the Student Tennis Center, alongside Gonzaga, Portland, and hosting Oregon.
Last time on the court, the Cougars participated in the Barb Chandler Classic hosted by Boise State, Sept. 18-20. The Cougars finished 5-3 in doubles, freshman Gabriella Harper and senior Yura Nakagawa recorded 2-1 in doubles taking wins against Boise State and Weber State. Sophomore Ava-Monet Sycamore and junior Chisato Kanemaki also finished the tournament 2-1 in doubles beating out Boise State and Weber State. In singles, Sycamore finished 2-1, recording wins against Weber State and Boise State. Kanemaki finished 1-1 earning a win against Weber State.
Last season, Oregon finished 12-13 overall, ending their season against WSU winning 4-0. The Ducks have eight returners and one new athlete this year. Their most notable returners are, Tilde Jagare who finished 17-10 last season and Bridget Mihulka who finished 18-10. Oregon’s doubles teams to look out for are Hadley Appling and Virginia Crocker who finished the season 7-2 as a pair, as well as Hinata Furutani and Juliet Santitto who finished the season 11-6.
Gonzaga started their season at San Luis Obispo, Calif. On day 1 of the Cal Poly Hidden Dual, the Bulldogs swept 5-0 in singles against Fresno State, Emily Robertson defeating her opponent 6-0,6-0. Overall, Gonzaga finished the weekend 9-7 in singles and 6-3 in doubles. The Bulldogs swept 3-0 day three doubles, taking wins over Fresno State, 6-1, 6-2, and 6-4. Gonzaga had six returners and five new athletes.
Portland started their season here in Pullman at the Cougar Classic Sept. 11-13. The Pilots had five freshmen make their debuts; Emily Velasco finished 3-0 in singles against WSU, Idaho, and Montana. Portland has four returners and five newcomers. Third year Maria Galatescu and first year Gaja Djurickovic are both 2-1 in singles.
