PULLMAN, Wash. (September 17, 2026) — Washington State women's volleyball lost to Long Beach State 3-0 Thursday at Bohler Gym. WSU had 34 kills and hit .184, compared with 38 kills and a .220 hitting percentage for Long Beach State.
The Cougars finished near Long Beach State in several volume categories, with 34 kills to Long Beach State’s 38 and 42 digs to 44, but Long Beach State posted the higher hitting percentage, .220 to .184. The serve line also favored Long Beach State, which had seven aces and four service errors while Wazzu recorded four aces and 12 service errors.
Mary Healy led WSU with 11 kills and 13 points, adding two service aces.
Madyn Cervellera recorded 14 digs and added eight kills.
Audrey Hollis finished with 19 assists, seven digs and four kills.
Kryssa Moerman converted seven kills on 12 attacks with a .500 hitting percentage and added two blocks.
The Cougars erased an early 7-5 deficit by scoring five straight points, including four on Hollis' serve, with Moerman involved in a block to tie it at 7-7 and Moerman and Whitney Dewicki combining on another block for a 10-7 lead. The set stayed tight from there, with Healy, Cervellera and Dewicki putting down kills as Wazzu held narrow edges before Long Beach State tied it at 14-14, 15-15, 16-16 and 17-17. Long Beach State served through five straight points from 17-17 to 22-17, collecting three aces in a run that also included a kill. WSU pulled back within 23-21 on a Naomi White kill and a Cervellera-White block and stayed alive at 24-22 on another White kill, but a service error gave Long Beach State the set, 25-22.
Wazzu moved ahead 2-0 in the second set on a Long Beach State attack error and a Cervellera kill, but Long Beach State came back to take a 4-3 lead before the Cougars answered for a 6-4 edge behind a Dewicki serve sequence and another Cervellera kill. The set stayed tight through the middle, with Healy putting down four kills as WSU went up 13-10 before Long Beach State pulled even at 13-13 and the teams traded points to 16-16. Long Beach State then scored six straight points, including an ace and two kills, to move in front 22-16. The Cougs got a Cervellera kill, a Healy kill, and a Chloe Heimlicher ace late, but Long Beach State reached set point at 24-19 and finished the set 25-19 on a kill.
Long Beach State built a 5-1 lead early on kills around two WSU attack errors, before Cervellera's kill and Dewicki's ace helped the Cougars get back within 5-3. After Long Beach State pushed the margin to 10-6, Wazzu took three straight points on a service error, an attack error, and a Healy ace to pull within 10-9, and Moerman later had a kill during a two-point answer that made it 12-11. Long Beach State kept the Cougs from pulling even and stretched the set from 16-13 to 19-13 with an ace, a block on Healy, and a kill. WSU trimmed a 23-15 deficit to 23-18 on kills by Healy and Moerman and a Healy ace, but after the teams traded the next two points, a kill finished Long Beach State's 25-19 set win.
