Cougar Athletics with the Office and the President and ASWSU and Cougar Athletics Launch "Our House. Our Moment." Initiative for Football Home Opener
PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University, Associated Students of Washington State University, and Cougar Athletics are joining together to invite every WSU student to be part of a defining moment in university history.
As Cougar Football begins a new season under Head Coach Kirby Moore, enters a new era in the Pac-12, and builds momentum under the leadership of Director of Athletics Jon Haarlow, university leaders are calling on students to help pack Gesa Field for the home opener against Duquesne.
"This is about more than a football game," said President Betsy Cantwell. "It is an opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate what makes WSU special. Cougar Athletics unites our students, alumni, faculty, staff, and supporters in a way few things can, and we want every student to be part of that experience.”
The initiative reflects a shared commitment between university leadership, student government, and athletics to strengthen the student experience and create a culture of pride, belonging, and engagement across campus.
"This will break down the barrier for students to be able to come and experience what being a Coug on game day feels like. We want to bring back the Cougar Pride and the environment that students will feel radiate at games and after them."
The home opener represents the beginning of an exciting chapter for Cougar Athletics. University leaders, coaches, and student-athletes are embracing a vision focused on excellence, community engagement, service, and creating unforgettable experiences that strengthen the Cougar community.
"Athletics has the power to elevate a university's visibility, energize a campus, and create lifelong memories," said Jon Haarlow, Director of Athletics. "This moment belongs to all Cougs. We're asking students to show up, be loud, be proud, and help us create an atmosphere that reflects the passion and pride of Washington State University."
Throughout the week leading up to kickoff, Cougar Athletics, ASWSU, and campus partners will be engaging students across campus through residence halls, dining centers, student organizations, Greek communities, and classroom visits to encourage attendance and build excitement.
“An electric game day atmosphere is fueled by students,” said head coach Kirby Moore. “Our players are fired up for the home opener after two road games to start the season. Running out to a packed student section and stadium will only increase that energy. One thing about Coug fans, they are loyal and they bring it all game long!”
The message is simple:
This is our house. This is our moment. Let's fill Gesa Field.
