Pullman, Wash. (Sept. 17, 2026) – The Cougars return for their second round of matches, this time in Boise, Idaho. The WSU tennis team is participating in the Barb Chandler Classic, Sept. 18-20, for the first time in the past decade.
The Cougars are coming off the Cougar Classic where newcomer Gabriella Harper swept in singles over her opponents.
WSU tennis has three new athletes on their roster this season, Harper, Clara Schön, and Katiana Gonzalez. The Cougars also have Yura Nakagawa, Chisato Kanemaki, Zali Morris, and Ava-Monet Sycamore returning for another season of WSU Tennis.
Last season, Boise State won the regular-season Mountain West Championship in the spring. They are opening their season at the Barb Chandler Classic. The Broncos have eight returners and two new athletes. Last season, Boise State tennis went 81-24 in singles, Allison Isaacs bringing home 18 wins and Masa Viriant earning 14. In doubles, the Broncos finished 34-23, both Zdena Safarova and Tereza Polakova finishing 14-6 respectively.
The Washington women’s tennis team finished last season 20-6 overall and 9-4 in Big Ten play. They also reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row. Carina Syrtveit, Alexia Jacobs, and Marie Weissheim return to the Huskies after playing in the NCAA Doubles Championship last year. UW has seven returners and three new athletes this season.
Weber State finished with a record of 29-71 in singles and 7-41 in doubles last season. They started their season at the Barb Chandler Classic and went 3-10 in singles and 0-12 in doubles against Boise State, Montana State, and Idaho State.
Last season, Utah finished with a record of 76-47 in singles and 34-29 in doubles. Sara Akid returns as a senior for the Utes, Akid finished with a singles record of 14-4 and a doubles record of 11-6. Emmie Moore also returns; last season she finished the season with a doubles record of 12-7. Utah has three returners this season and seven newcomers.
