PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State women’s soccer team lost 3-0 to Idaho Wednesday night at Lower Soccer Field to kick off the 2026 season and Head Coach Chris Citowicki's inaugural season on the sidelines. The Vandals scored three goals in the first 10 minutes and withstood 10 Cougar with three on target.
The Cougars trailed early after conceding a second-minute goal to the Vandals. A strong pass skipped passed WSU's starting goalkeeper Ashlyn Dvorak and to the feet of Idaho's Calli Chiarelli for the opening goal. The Vandals added another goal at five minutes. Idaho's flurry concluded in the 10th minute with a third goal scored by Alyssa Hamilton.
Wazzu pressured with shots from Maycen Slater, Lexi Lee, and Kate Spangler but couldn't break Idaho's defense and entered halftime trailing 3-0.
In the second period, Dvorak made three crucial saves, as the Cougars played forward seeking a comeback goal. In the final 10 minutes, Slater nearly got her foot on the ball during a goal-mouth scramble, but the Idaho goalkeeper smothered the ball before it could reach the goal.
WSU played a full rotation off the bench with 17 Cougars making their WSU debuts and six student-athletes making their collegiate debut. The Vandals earned their second all-time win over Wazzu and the first since 1993.
The Cougs will host South Florida Saturday, Aug. 15, at 6 p.m. at Lower Soccer Field in Pullman as part of Youth Soccer Night. The game will stream live on the Pac-12 YouTube channel.
