PULLMAN, Wash. (August 12, 2026) – Washington State women’s rowing and Head Coach Jane LaRiviere have announced the addition of Dave Hammond as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the 2026-27 season.
“We are delighted to welcome back one of our own,” said LaRiviere. “As an alumnus with a proven track record of success Dave brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to our program. He is energetic, passionate, and determined to succeed. Dave will have a tremendous impact on our student-athletes, and our entire staff is excited to work alongside him. Together, we look forward to developing the next generation of outstanding Cougar oarswomen and competing on the national stage.”
Hammond most recently served the last four years as the Rowing Head Coach at the University of Puget Sound where he brought home Northwest Region Coach of the Year honors in 2025 and 2026, and secured a bid to compete to the NCAA DIII national championship in 2024 and 2026, placing seventh both years.
Also during his time there, the program secured back-to-back Northwest Conference Championships in 2024 and 2025, and a Northwest Collegiate Rowing Championship in 2026, with their 1V8 having gone undefeated against in-region competition since 2023.
“I am so thrilled to be returning to Washington State University as the new Women's Rowing Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator,” said Hammond. “I want to thank Head Coach Jane LaRiviere and assistant coaches Leah, Jess, and Berke for their warm welcome to the program and shared goals and excitement for the future of WSU Women's Rowing. I can't wait to get started!”
Hammond returns to WSU as a proud graduate and member of the Men's Rowing team from 2014-2016.
“Building a culture of excellence on the water and on campus has always been my driving passion, and I am so energized to continue that standard at WSU,” Hammond added. “Coming back to Pullman is an exciting return to my roots. This place means a lot to me and has been a major part of my rowing career. Once a Coug, always a Coug!”
