Cougars Drop Nonconference Matchup to Gonzaga

PULLMAN, Wash. (April 21, 2026) – Washington State dropped a 16-8 decision to Gonzaga at Bailey-Brayton Field Tuesday night.
 
The Cougars (21-20) received two-hit games from Trevor Smith, Max Hartman and Mason Pirello while Hartman homered and matched a career-high with four runs scored.
 
WSU held a 6-3 lead into the fifth before GU (24-14) scored five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take the lead.
 
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
The Cougars struck first with a two-run triple to right field in the first inning by Pirello. GU scored three runs on four hits in the second inning before Skjonsby evened things with an RBI-single in the third inning. Kyler Northrop scored on a passed ball before Hartman pushed the lead to 6-3 with a two-run home run to right-centerfield.
 
Gonzaga struck for a pair of five-run frames in the fifth and sixth innings and added runs in the seventh and eighth.
 
Dustin Robinson had an RBI-single to left field in the seventh and Dane Chavez had an RBI-single in the eighth.
