August Richie Named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week

Richie had three scoreless appearances in three WSU wins last week.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 13, 2026) – Washington State righthander August Richie was named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
 
The Cougars went 4-1 last week, splitting a two-game set against seventh-ranked Oregon State before sweeping all three games against Gardner-Webb.
 
Richie made three appearances last week, all out of the bullpen, and notched two saves with 5.2 innings, no runs allowed, just two hits and two strikeouts.
 
Richie was a huge part of the Cougars 7-6 win over seventh-ranked Oregon State, retiring all eight batters he faced in a 2.2 scoreless innings with one strikeout. The junior from Tucson, Ariz. followed with a pair of saves in the series sweep of Gardner-Webb, working a 1-2-3 ninth in Thursday's opener before working the final two innings scoreless of Saturday's finale.
 
This season, Richie has made 13 appearances and posted four saves with a 3.47 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 23.1 innings.
 
This is WSU's fourth player of the week award of the season after earning three MWC Freshman of the Week honors earlier this season; catcher Alexandre Giguère (March 9), outfielder Matt Priest (March 23, March 30).
