COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 23, 2026) – Washington State outfielder Matt Priest was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Priest helped the Cougars to a 3-1 record last week including a three-game sweep of Grand Canyon in Pullman over the weekend. The redshirt-freshman collected five hits with one triple, one home run, four RBI and two runs scored.

Priest started the week with a three-hit game at Utah Tuesday afternoon and later hit his first career home run, a two-run shot to left field and scored twice in Friday's win over Grand Canyon. In Saturday's win over GCU, Priest threw out a runner at home from left field in the fourth inning and drove in the game-winner in the tenth inning on a walkoff RBI-fielder's choice.

This season, the San Diego native has made 13 starts and hit .245 with 12 hits, two doubles, one triple, one home run, nine RBI and six runs scored.

This is WSU's second player of the week award of the season after catcher Alexandre Giguère earned the same honor March 9 following the Texas State series.
