PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State cross country duo of
Rosemary Longisa and
Evans Kurui were named the West Coast Conference Runners of the Week, the WCC announced Tuesday. The Cougars swept the conference honors for the first time this year and the third time in the last two seasons.
Kurui set a course record in the 8K with his first-place time of 22 minutes and 22.1 seconds at last weekend's Cougar Classic. He clocked in 20 seconds better than his previous record set at last year's meet. Kurui earned his fourth WCC Runner of the Week award and first of the season.
Longisa won the Cougar Classic with a meet-record time of 19 minutes and 32.3 seconds, one minute and five seconds faster than second-place finisher. Longisa has competed in two races this season, winning both in convincing fashion. The honor marked the freshman's first conference recognition of the season.
The Cougars will return to action September 26 for the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Missouri.
