Murphy’s Tournament Ends in Consolation Final

SAN FRANCISCO (Sept. 14, 2025) – Washington State redshirt senior Maxine Murphy saw her tournament come to a close in the consolation final at the Battle in the Bay, Sunday at the California Tennis Club.
Murphy, who reached the final after winning both matches in straight sets Saturday, dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to No. 5 seed Vivian Ovrootsky of Arizona State.
The Cougars continue their fall season Sept. 20 at the 2025 All-American Championships qualifying rounds. WSU will send Murphy, Eva Alvarez Sande and Yura Nakagawa to the event, which will be held in Cary, N.C.
