SAN FRANCISCO (Sept. 12, 2025) – Washington State Tennis battled through three close matches during the second day of action Friday at the Battle in the Bay, played at the California Tennis Club.
In second round singles action, senior
Eva Alvarez Sande, who upset the NO. 3 seed in Thursday's opening round, went three sets but could not pull it out as she fell to UC Santa Barbara's Emma Tutoveanu, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
In the consolation round, WSU's
Maxine Murphy won by walkover when Arizona State's Zlata Bartanusz was not able to play.
In doubles action, Alvarez Sande and Murphy went the distance for the second-straight match, falling 7-6 (4) to USC's Jana Hossam Salah and Imogen Haddad in the consolation round.
Play continues Saturday at the Battle in the Bay.
