Cougars Drop Finale, Clinch Series with San Jose State

PULLMAN, Wash. (April 6, 2025) – Washington State dropped Sunday's series-finale with San Jose State 12-6 but took two out of three from the Spartans in the weekend series played at Bailey-Brayton Field.

WSU received three hits and three RBI from
Will Cresswell while
Max Hartman and
Ryan Skjonsby each collected two hits. The Cougars have won both home Mountain West Conference series after sweeping San Diego State two weeks prior and took two of three in Pullman this weekend.

San Jose State avoided the series sweep with a six-run first inning and 6.1 solid innings from starter Win Scott. The Cougars combined to leave 12 runners on base while SJSU worked eight walks.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
San Jose State used a leadoff walk, a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt and four hits including a grand slam for six-run first inning. WSU answered with a pair of runs on three hits in the bottom of the frame.

SJSU added a run in the second and threatened for more after loading the bases with nobody but
Trevor Stowe entered from the bullpen and ended the inning with a popout and two strikeouts. The Cougars loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth after a
Kyler Northrop RBI-single through the right side and a pair of infield singles from Hartman and
Luke Thiele but SJSU ended the threat with a strikeout.

WSU answered SJSU's seventh-inning solo homer with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to cut the lead to 10-6 but a pinch-hitter struck out end the inning. The Cougars put two runners on in the ninth but the Spartans held on for the 12-6 win with a foulout and pair of strikeouts.
