PULLMAN, Wash. (March 7, 2025) – Washington State Tennis dropped just one set en route to a 7-0 victory over Portland State Friday afternoon at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 10-5 on the season while the Vikings fall to 3-4.

Doubles play began the action and WSU jumped out to a quick lead as the nation's 34th-ranked team of
Eva Alvarez Sande and
Maxine Murphy cruised to a 6-0 win over PSU's Nika Beukers and Nene Uemura at No 1. WSU's
Elyse Tse and
Chisato Kanemaki clinched the doubles point following a 6-2 win over Hana Abdalhamid and Scarlett Perkins at No. 2, while
Hania Abouelsaad and
Martina Markova completed the sweep with a 6-3 win over Kasumi Hirayama and Ayra Salim on Court. 3.

In singles play, Abouelsaad put the Cougars up 2-0 as she won 6-2, 2-1, when Perkins was forced to retire due to injury on Court 4. At No. 3, Tse had no trouble in completing a 6-0, 6-0 win over Uemura, while Alvarez Sande clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Beukers at No. 1. Alvarez Sande's team-leading 22nd win of the season put the Cougars up 4-0 with three matches left on court.

Murphy earned her 12th dual match win of the season against just three losses as she rallied for a 6-4, 6-3 win over Abdelhamid at No. 2. Kanemaki pushed the lead to 6-0 as she defeated Hirayama, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6 just ahead of Markova's come-from-behind, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (16-14) win at No. 5, completing the sweep.

The Cougars are next in action when they open West Coast Conference play March 22 at Gonzaga.
