Cougars Wrap up series at Nevada

RENO, Nev. (March 30, 2025) – Washington State closed out its weekend series at Nevada with a 9-4 defeat Sunday afternoon.

WSU tied the game with three runs in the fourth before Nevada broke a 3-3 tie with a four-run sixth inning. Logan Johnstone led the Cougars with four hits including a pair of doubles while Will Cresswell doubled and homered. WSU starting pitcher Luke Meyers was impressive, striking out three over five innings and allowed three earned runs.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
Nevada took a 2-0 lead with a two-out two-run home run in the second inning and added a solo shot in the third but the Cougars answered in the fourth. Skjonsby lined a one-out single to left and Ollie Obenour was a hit by a pitch before Johnstone doubled off the right field wall to score both runners and Roy followed with an RBI-double to left to tie things up at three.

WSU threatened again in the sixth after Johnstone doubled and Cresswell later walked to put runners on first and third with two outs. Reno native Jack Weise lined a pitch back up the middle but the Nevada second baseman made a diving catch to end the inning.

In the bottom of the inning, Nevada used a pair of walks and an error on a failed pickoff attempt at second base to put runners on the corners against the Cougar bullpen and a two-out RBI-single back up the middle gave the Wolfpack a 4-3 lead. The next batter hit a three-run homer and pushed their lead to 7-3.

Nevada added two more runs in the eighth inning before Cresswell hit a solo homer in the ninth.
