Cougars Complete First Round at The Goodwin

| By:
STANFORD, Calif. (March 27, 2025) – Freshman Dylan Burcham fired a 2-over, 72, to lead Washington State Men's Golf during the first round Thursday at The Goodwin, held at the par 70, 6,742-yard Stanford Golf Course.

As a team, the Cougars started strong, teeing-off on the back side and making the turn at 2-over as a team. The front side proved to be more difficult as WSU finished the first day at 17-over, 297 and sit tied for 24th in the 30-team field.

Burcham started slow as he was three-over after just three holes. He fell to 5-under after eight holes before finding his rhythm. He birdied 18 to make the turn at 4-under, then sprinkled in two birdies among seven pars to go two-under on the front 9 and finish at 2-over, 72, tied for 62nd.

Junior Sam Renner began his round with back-to-back birdies on holes 10 and 11, but managed just one more birdie the rest of the way to end his first 18 holes at 3-over, 75, tied for 73rd. Redshirt-senior Drayton Joseph also started strong, making the turn at 2-under with no bogeys. His final nine holes included three bogeys and two doubles as he concluded his day at 5-over, 75, tied for 111th overall.

Jakob Chicoyne never seemed to find a rhythm as he managed just two birdies on his round en route to a 7-over, 77, tied for 137th overall. Freshman Garrett Harrison finished his round with an 8-over, 78, which included WSU's lone eagle of the round on the par 5, 1st. Harrison sits tied for 147th.

Round 2 at The Goodwin is set for Friday, with the Cougars set to begin play at Noon.
