CORVALLIS, Ore. (March 12, 2025) – Washington State took a one-run lead into the seventh inning but eighth-ranked Oregon State used a two-out two-run home run to post a 4-3 win at Goss Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

The Cougars received two-hit games from
Ricco Longo and
Will Cresswell and built a 3-0 lead with three-run third inning but OSU scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings before hitting the go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh.

WSU pitched four freshmen led by starter
Gavin Derr who opened the game with three scoreless innings, striking out four along the way.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
WSU put two runners in each of the first two innings but OSU kept the Cougars off the scoreboard. Derr was impressive against the Beaver lineup, stranding a pair of runners in the second and third innings while racking up four strikeouts.

In the Cougar third, Skjonsby walked, Longo pulled a single to left field and
Logan Johnstone worked a walk to load the bases with one out. Two runs scored on a wild pitch, the first scored on the wild pitch and the second came home after a throwing error by the Beaver catcher on the play.
Gavin Roy followed with a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Johnstone for a 3-0 advantage.

OSU made it a 3-1 game with a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and added another run in the fifth after a hit-by-pitch, wild pitch and double to left to cut the Cougar lead to 3-2.

In the sixth, OSU put runners on first and second with two outs before
Rylan Haider entered the game and ended the threat with a ground ball to
Luke Thiele at third who stepped on the third base bag for the third out.

In the seventh, OSU used a hit-by-pitch and a two-out two-run homer to left-centerfield to take a 4-3 lead. The Cougar put a runner on in the eighth but the Beavers ended the inning with a 4-6-3 double play.

In the ninth, Cresswell beat out an infield single but OSU closed out the game with a strikeout and groundout.
