Academic Services January Student-Athletes of the Month

PULLMAN, Wash. (February 1, 2025) – Washington State Track and Field student-athletes Micaela De Mello and Eli Lawrence were named the Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month for January 2025.

De Mello is a senior from Palhoca, Brazil who posted a 3.51 GPA while earning her bachelor's degree in criminal justice and public relations, and currently owns a 3.10 GPA working towards a master's in criminal justice. On the track, De Mello was recently named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Athlete of the Year after winning the 60m hurdles and finishing second in the 60m, both times were personal bests. In January, De Mello set a Brazilian national record in the 60m hurdles (8.02) and later bested that time in the MPSF Championships with an 8.00 in the 60m hurdles. De Mello earned outdoor All-America First Team honors in the 100m hurdles after finishing seventh in the NCAA Championship final last season.

Lawrence is a junior from Meridian, Idaho who owns a 4.00 GPA while majoring in computer science also helps as a teaching assistant for younger students in computer science classes. On the track, Lawrence won the triple jump at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with a winning leap of 15.42m (50' 7.25) and concluded the 2024-25 indoor season ranked No. 37 nationally in the triple jump.
