Cougars head back to the Podium for the MPSF Championships

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Cougars are back at The Podium this weekend for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track and Field Championships. 27 male athletes and 27 female athletes will be invited to compete this weekend. In addition to WSU, participating schools include CSU Fullerton, CSU Northridge, Hawaii, Long Beach State, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Portland, San Francisco, St. Mary's (CA), UC Davis, UC Irvine, and UC Riverside. Tickets are $17 each day or $32 for both days and can be found on the MPSF track and field website.

Three program records were broken this past weekend, making it one of the most successful weekends for WSU track and field. On Friday, Evans Kurui broke the 49-year-old 5000-meter indoor record in Seattle with a time of 13:17.16. This also set a meet record and Dempsey Indoor record, putting him ninth-fastest in NCAA Division 1 this season. Grant Buckmiller lowered his own school record in the 400 meter event on Friday evening with a time of 46.20 seconds. On Saturday, freshman Rosemary Longisa broke her own program record in the Mile at the same track she had broken the school Mile record last Month.

Cougars Competing Outside of Pullman
Cougar senior Mason Mahacek will compete in the Heptathlon this weekend at the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. Also competing this weekend is senior Nana Gyedu, who will be competing in the shot put at the 2025 British Indoor Athletics Championships in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

WSU track and field will head to the Last Chance Qualifier hosted by Boston University on March 2nd. This will be the last meet before the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
