LA QUINTA, Calif. (Feb. 17, 2025) – Junior
Sam Renner shot a 4-under-par, 67, to lead Washington State Men's Golf during the first round at The Prestige Monday, played on the par-71, 7,127-yard Greg Norman Course at PGA West. Renner's round included six birdies against two bogeys as he sits tied for fourth after 18 holes, one shot behind a trio of golfers.

The Cougars shot 12-over, 296, on the round after it was determined freshman
Dylan Burcham had signed an incorrect score card and was disqualified from the round. Instead of counting Burcham's 2-under, 69, that score was removed and the remaining four scores all counted towards WSU's total. North Carolina leads after the first round after shooting a 9-under, 275.

Starting on the back side, Renner opened his round with a birdie on 10 before bogeys on 13 and 16 put him 1-over after seven holes. He quickly reversed course with back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 to finish his first nine at 1-under, 36. On the front side, Renner played mistake-free, recording birdies on holes 3, 5 and 7, surrounded by six pars to finish at 4-under, 67, on the round,

Redshirt senior
Drayton Joseph opened his day with seven-straight pars after starting on Hole 10 before a bogey-birdie finish ended his first nine holes at even-par. After the turn, he fired five more pars before a bogey on 6 and a double on 9 ended his round with a 3-over, 74, tied for 78th overall.

Ben Borgida began his day with back-to-back birdies on Holes 10 and 11 but managed just one more birdie the rest of the round as he struggled to an opening-day, 6-over, 77, tied for 102nd. Senior
Franklin Lydra shot an opening-round of 8-over, 79, managing two birdies on the day, as he sits tied for 110th after his first 18 holes.
