PULLMAN, Wash. (Feb. 16, 2025) – The Washington State Women's Tennis swept past Boise State and Seattle in a Sunday doubleheader at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse. The Cougars defeated Boise State 6-1 followed by a 4-0 win over Seattle. With the victories, WSU improves to 9-3 on the season.

Boise State Match
In doubles play, the Cougars won on Courts 1 and 3 to clinch the opening point. At No. 1, WSU's
Eva Alvarez Sande and
Maxine Murphy cruised to a 6-3 win over the nation's 53rd-ranked team, Zdena Safarova and Maya Dutta. AT No. 3, the Cougar duo of
Hania Abouelsaad and
Martina Puvill never trailed in a 6-2 win over Bhakti Shah and Paula Shaeffer. The No. 2 match between WSU's
Elyse Tse and
Chisato Kanemaki against Boise State's Ryan Kershner and Lorelyn Murraffo was stopped with the match tied at 5-5.

Tse put the Cougars up 2-0 after she completed a 6-0, 6-3 win over Shah at No. 3. Murphy followed as she rallied from 4-2 down in the second to final the final four games in a 6-4, 6-4 win over Dutta at No. 2.

Alvarez Sande clinched the team win for the Cougars as she defeated Safarova, ranked No. 110 nationally, 6-3, 7-6 at No. 1, giving WSU a 4-0 lead with three matches remaining. Alvarez Sande needed six match points to secure the win.

In a marathon match, Abouelsaad outlasted Shaeffer at No. 4, winning 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (2), to give WSU a 5-0 lead. At No. 6, Kanemaki rallied from a set down to defeat Masa Viriant, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 10-6. Boise captured its lone win as Shaeffer posted a 7-5, 7-6 (4) win over Puvill at No. 5.

Seattle Match
The doubles point went to the wire as WSU's No. 1 duo of Alvarez Sande and Murphy had no trouble posting a 6-2 win over Natalia Michta and Jade Quintana. Seattle responded as the No. 2 team of Liliya Dimova and Daria Nazarenko defeated Tse and Kanemaki by the same 6-2 margin, pushing the deciding match to Court 3. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead, WSU's Abouelsaad and Kanemaki found themselves trailing 4-5 to Seattle's Lamija Avdic and Lola Tavcar. Three-straight games clinched a 7-5 victory for the Cougars, giving them the opening doubles point.

The Cougars quickly extended their lead in singles as Abouelsaad posted a 6-3, 6-0 win over Nazarenko at No. 4 followed by Tse's 6-3, 6-0 win over Tavcar at No. 3. Murphy clinched the match for WSU following a 6-4, 6-1 win over Dimova at No. 2.

With the team match secure, the remaining three matches were stopped. At No. 1, Alvarez Sande was leading Avdic, 6-4, 4-3, Puvill was leading Michta at No. 5, 4-1, and Kanemaki had just started on Court 6, leading Teramura, 1-0.

The Cougars return to the courts Friday, Feb. 21, when they travel to Waco, Texas, to face No. 22 Baylor.
