PULLMAN, Wash. (Dec. 7, 2025) -- The Washington State University Cougars accepted an invitation to play in the 2025 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, Monday, Dec. 22, at Noon MT/11 a.m. PT, it was announced Sunday.
The 2025 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl will feature the Cougars against Utah State (6-6) from the Mountain West Conference. The game will mark the sixth meeting all-time between the two teams, WSU holding a 3-2 advantage, with the most recent being a 49-28 Cougar victory at Gesa Field during the 2024 season.

Jon Haarlow. "It's a tremendous opportunity for our student-athletes to compete and represent this wonderful institution on the national stage as we prepare for the new Pac-12 next year. We look forward to a great week in Boise."
In 2025, the Cougars posted a 6-6 record as WSU clinched bowl eligibility with a 32-8 victory over Oregon State to end the regular season. Defense led the way as the Cougars allowed just 12.6 ppg over the final eight games and enter the bowl game ranked 18th nationally in total defense and 15th in passing yards allowed. The bowl selection marks the ninth bowl game in the last 10 full seasons for WSU and 10th in 13 seasons.
This year marks WSU's first appearance in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, which dates back to the inaugural game in 1997, known as the Humanitarian Bowl. Over the years, the game has seen multiple title sponsors of the Humanitarian Bowl until 2011, when it became the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
Previously WSU has played in the Rose Bowl (1916, 1931, 1998, 2003), the Holiday Bowl (1981, 2003, 2016, 2017, 2024), the Aloha Bowl (1988), the Copper Bowl (1992), the Alamo Bowl (1994, 2018), the Sun Bowl (2001, 2015), the 2013 New Mexico Bowl and the 2022 LA Bowl. The Cougars are 8-11 in bowl games all time.
