Cougar Comeback Falls Short in Season-Opener to Idaho

PULLMAN, Wash. (Hayden Wysup) – The Washington State men's basketball team lost to Idaho, 81-83, Monday night in the season opener at Beasley Coliseum.

PULLMAN, Wash. (Hayden Wysup) – The Washington State men's basketball team lost to Idaho, 81-83, Monday night in the season opener at Beasley Coliseum. 
 
Player Performances – Sophomore returner, Tomas Thrastarson matched his career-high with 17 points and tallied six rebounds. Emmanuel Ugbo also matched his career-high with 17 points and delivered a team-high eight rebounds, equaling his career high. Freshman Ace Glass scored 17 off the bench, with 15 points coming in the second half. Jerone Morton added 14 points as the fourth double-digit scorer. 
 
Inside The Stat Sheet – While the Cougars found an advantage getting to the line, attempting 34 free throws compared to the Vandals' 19, Idaho found an advantage from behind the arc. Idaho shot 11-of-28 from three while the Cougars shot just 6-of-28. 
 
Uphill Battle – Idaho took a commanding lead in the first half, going up 32-19, and never relinquished the lead. The Cougars fought back all game, and despite a 21-7 run in the final five minutes, the Vandals held on for the win. 
 
Up Next – Washington State will head to Davidson, North Carolina to take on Davidson, Friday at 4 p.m. PT, at Belk Arena.
