PULLMAN, Wash. –
Haumea Marumoto is returning for her second year with Washington State University. Last year Marumoto appeared in 15 matches representing WSU.
We recently had the opportunity to sit down with sophomore
Haumea Marumoto.
What do you like to do off the court?
I like to go to the beach and spend time with my family and friends. My favorite beach is called Sandy's in Hawai'i. I like to go for drives and listen to music. I like rap, country, and pop throwbacks. I really like Morgan Wallen, I've been liking his new album a lot recently.
What's been your favorite memory of playing volleyball?
Probably playing in the state championships in high school. That was really fun.
What's been your favorite memory at WSU so far?
So far, just meeting my friend Italia, my roommate. We've gotten really close, so probably that.
How has playing at the collegiate level been different from playing in Hawai'i?
It's different because people here are taller than average in Hawai'i, and I think it's just a lot more competition overall. Everyone is good, I feel like that's the biggest difference.
How have your parents motivated you?
I don't want to let them down; I want them to be proud of me. Especially because I'm away from home. So, when I go back, I want to feel like I was accomplishing a lot of things.
What are you most excited for this season?
I'm excited to see how far we can take it because we have the potential to win the conference and go to the tournament.
What is a goal you have for yourself this season?
Just to be the teammate that everyone feels comfortable around and knows they can go to. For volleyball, it's to get more consistent in serve-receive.
What is a piece of advice you give to your younger self?
Don't get discouraged it will all work out, and don't worry about the future.
What is your favorite place in Pullman?
I'm going to go with Knead. I really like the food there, I mix it up coffee wise, but I like the morning buns they have and the croissants.
What is something you think fans should know about you?
Maybe I have an RBF, but I'm having fun. I promise!
