SEATTLE, Wash. – (October 2, 2025) – Washington State shook off a slow start and roared back to claim a 3-1 road win over Seattle University (17-25, 25-19, 25-12, 25-17) on Thursday night at the Redhawk Center, keeping the Cougars unbeaten in West Coast Conference play.
After dropping the opening set, WSU (9-4, 3-0 WCC) regrouped behind a balanced attack and an aggressive service game. The Cougars hammered down 50 kills and racked up 14 service aces, overwhelming the Redhawks in the final three sets.
Lucie Blažková powered the offense with 16 kills on .423 hitting while also stuffing six blocks at the net.
Taryn Vrieling delivered 11 kills and four service aces, sparking Washington State's turnaround after the first set. Setter duo
Livia Ward (24 assists) and
Italia Bernal (20 assists) orchestrated a steady attack that kept Seattle U off balance.
The serving line was a major weapon for WSU. Tinons Munar Galmés fired six aces, including a key run in the third set that broke the match wide open.
Mary Healy added three more, and the Cougars piled up five aces in that set alone while holding Seattle U to a negative hitting percentage.
Defensively, WSU dug 47 balls and turned momentum with timely blocks. Blažková, Vrieling, and
Camryn Lingenbrink helped shut down the Redhawk hitters in the middle frames, allowing just 12 points in the third set and only 17 in the fourth.

- Tinons Munar Galmés' six service aces was a career-high and ranks tied for fourth all-time at WSU.
- Taryn Vrieling matched a career-high in service aces with four.
- Blažková had one solo block, giving her 54 for her career, ninth all-time at WSU.
- Their 14 service aces was a season-high mark, and ranks tied for fourth in WSU history.
