WSU Soccer Ties Gonzaga, 1-1
October 18, 2025 | Soccer
PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State women's soccer team tied Gonzaga, 1-1, Saturday night at Lower Soccer Field to remain unbeaten at home all-time against the Bulldogs. In the 28th all-time meeting between the programs, WSU freshman Keira Mitchell scored the first-half, go-ahead goal for the Cougars (4-5-5) before Gonzaga battled back with a late equalizer in the 83rd minute.
The Cougars controlled possession from the start, playing through the midfield and building up play into the attacking third. Wazzu's opportunity came in the 30th minute, when sophomore Audrey Shackelford delivered a corner kick perfectly into the 6-yard box. Mitchell fought for position and headed home her second goal of the season, giving Shackelford her third assist of the year.
WSU entered halftime with the lead for the fifth time this season, remaining unbeaten with the 45-minute lead. However, the Zags would find the back of the net late in the match, delivering a loose ball, toe-poke in the 83rd minute from a free kick. Gonzaga's Alexis Parker finished from point-blank range, as the Cougs allowed their latest goal of the season and a chance at three points.
The Cougars dominated possession and the stat sheet, out-tallying the Bulldogs 8-0 from the corner flag, while outshooting the Zags 14-12. WSU's Mitchell, Maizy Kluksdal, and Alena Watts all earned bookings in the second half. Wazzu controlled the ball for over 60 percent of the match.
Washington State returns to the road for a pair of away matches in Oregon. The Cougars will travel to Corvallis to face Oregon State, Wednesday, Oct. 22 before visiting Portland to face the Pilots, Saturday, Oct. 25. Both matches will stream live on ESPN+.
