COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 14, 2025) – Washington State swimmer Avery Bulkley was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Bulkley had an impressive first collegiate meet, winning the 1650 free, finishing fourth in the 500 free and helped the 800 free relay to a second-place finish while the Cougars finished the meet in third place.

The freshman from Payson, Utah won the 1650 free with a 17:05.35, good for a five second win and entered Tuesday with the 11th-fastest mile time in the country. Bulkley also helped the 800 free relay team to a second-place finish and placed fourth in the 500 free.

Bulkley earns WSU's first conference honor of the season after Darcy Revitt earned the same recognition four times last season.

Bulkley and her distance teammates will head to southern California for the MPSF Open Water Championships in Long Beach this Saturday.
