LINCOLN, Neb. (Jan. 26, 2025) – Washington State Tennis saw its five-match winning streak to start the season end with a 5-2 loss to Nebraska Sunday at the Sid & Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
 
The Huskers jumped out quickly, taking two doubles matches for the opening point. At No. 3, Nebraska's Emma Rizzetto and Tiziana Rossini cruised by Hania Abouelsaad and Martina Markov, 6-1, which the point was secured when Reya Lee Coe and Maria Taranova posted a 6-3 win over Elyse Tse and Chisato Kanemaki on Court 2. The No.1 match was stopped with WSU's Eva Alvarez Sande and Maxine Murphy leading Ana Zamburek and Lucy Loy, 5-4.
 
In singles play, Nebraska captured the first round matches off the court to secure the team win. At No. 1, Zamburek earned an early break each set en route to a 6-3, 6-2 win while Coe pushed the lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Abouelsaad on Court 4.
 
The match was clinched on Court 3 when Taranova broke Tse late in the first set then held on in the second for a 6-4, 6-3 win. At No. 5, Rossini provided the Huskers with their final win, a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Martina Puvill.
 
Murphy put the Cougars on the board at No. 2 as she earned a hard-fought, 7-6, 6-4 win over Rizzetto while Markov closed out the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Loy at No.6.
 
Washington State returns to the court Friday when it hosts Brigham Young. Match time is set for Noon from Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
