PULLMAN, Wash. (February 17, 2025) – Washington State women's basketball forward, Dayana Mendes, was named the WCC Freshman Player of the Week Monday morning.
This is the second weekly conference honor for Mendes (12/2), and the fifth Freshman of the Week award for the Cougars this season with Candace Kpetikou (1/27) and Charlotte Abraham (12/23, 12/31) also earning the award.
Mendes finished with 25 points, 19 rebounds, a block, a steal and five assists while shooting 52.6 percent from the field this week. She recorded her third double-double of the season in a win over LMU on Thursday, and averaged 12.5 points and 9.5 rebounds over the two-game weekend.
Mendes was fifth in the WCC this week in rebounds, with six offensive boards (tied for sixth in the WCC) and 13 defensive boards (fifth in the WCC).
The Cougs have their final home games of the season next week, hosting San Francisco on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. for Fan Appreciation Night, and then Saint Mary's on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. for Senior Day. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
