Women’s Basketball Adds Jean Chiu to 2024-25 Signing Class
July 09, 2024 | Women's Basketball
PULLMAN, Wash. (July 9, 2024) – Washington State Women's Basketball Head Coach Kamie Ethridge announced the signing of Jean Chiu to a National Letter of Intent to join the Cougars next season.
Ethridge adds a sixth and final member to the program's 2024-25 signing class, with a 5-7 guard from Taiwan.
"The signing of Jean is an exciting ending to our 2024 class. She is a true pass-first point guard that plays as fast as anyone I have ever coached. Jean has unbelievable intensity and a motor that does not stop. She plays at one speed, 100 miles per hour, downhill. Simply put, Jean adds a weapon we do not have in our gym."
Jean Chiu | 5-7 | G | Taiwan, Taipei (University of Taipei/New Taipei Municipal Tamsui Vocational High School)
Chiu comes to the Cougs from Taiwan, Taipei where she has played the last three seasons at the University of Taipei. In 2023-24 she averaged 20.9 minutes per game and ended the season averaging 5.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. In high school she was a two-time league champion, and played in the league all-star game in the 2020-21 season. Chiu has also spent time playing with the Chinese Taipei National Team as a member of both the U16 and U18 teams.
"Her unrelenting pace, unique play-making abilities, passion and talent will make the 24-25 Cougar Women's basketball team a MUST SEE," said Ethridge. "Get your season tickets now! GO COUGS!"
