Program Record Six Cougars Named CSCAA Academic All-America

PULLMAN, Wash. (July 8, 2024) – A program record six Washington State Swimmers were named CSCAA Academic All-America led by Emily Lundgren who was named to the first team by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
 
Lundgren was named a CSCAA Academic All-American while Anna Rauchholz, Kiana Swain, Alexandra Vartiainen, Ariel Wang and Lauren Wille each earned second-team honors, the most Academic All-Americans in program history.
 
To qualify for First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in their national championship. Second-Team selections, must have also earned a 3.5 GPA or higher and met a "B" time standard for the national championship or qualified for a diving zone qualification meet.
 
Lundgren, a two-time NCAA Championship qualifier and 2024 All-American Honorable Mention selection in the pool, is a native of Chula Vista, Calif. who posted a 4.00 GPA while majoring in Digital Technology and Culture. In the classroom, Lundgren was also named to the Academic All-American Third Team by the College Sports Communicators. Lundgren capped her sophomore campaign earning the program's first All-American honor since 2007 after finishing 14th in the country in the 200 Breast at the 2024 NCAA Championships. Lundgren claimed two medals at the Pac-12 Conference Championships after finishing second in the Pac-12 in the 100 breast and third in the 200 breast.
 
Rauchholz is a sophomore from Portland, Ore. who owns a 3.91 GPA while majoring in biochemistry and was also named to the CSC Academic All-District Team. Rauchholz recorded three individual wins in the 100 back and capped the season with a school-record in the 100 back and recorded an NCAA "B" time while winning the "B" final at the Pac-12 Conference Championships.
 
Swain is a senior from Pukekohe, New Zealand who graduated with a 3.87 GPA while earning here psychology degree. This past season saw Swain post a pair of WSU Top-10 times int eh 100 back and 200 back while recording one individual win in the 200 back (at Idaho), earned a spot on the Pac-12 Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll and posted an NCAA "B" time in the 200 back at the Pac-12 Championships.
 
Vartiainen is a senior from Bromma, Sweeden who posted a 3.85 GPA while graduating with a degree in management and marketing. This past season, Vartiainen recorded a WSU Top-10 time and NCAA "B" time in the 200 breast at the Pac-12 Conference Championships and was later named to the Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll.
 
 
Wang is freshman from Taoyuan, Taiwan and McKinney, Texas who posted a 3.93 GPA while majoring in the kinesiology. In her debut season, Wang recorded a pair of wins in the 200 IM (USC, at Idaho), three WSU Top-10 times in the 200 back, 200 IM and 400 IM including an NCAA "B" time in the 400 IM at the Pac-12 Conference Championships.
 
Wille is a sophomore from Oswego, Ill. who posted a 3.76 GPA while majoring in kinesiology and earned a spot on the Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll. This past season, Wille recorded a pair of WSU Top-10 times in the 1000 free and 1650 free including an NCAA "B" time in the 1650 free while finishing seventh at the Pac-12 Conference Championships.
