PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State's Eva Alvarez Sande posted her biggest win of the season, but it was Cal that came away with the team victory in a 6-1 win over the Cougars Saturday at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. Following the match, WSU moved to 10-10 on the season, 1-8 in Pac-12 play, while Cal improved to 16-4, 8-1.
 
In the feature match at No. 1 singles, Alvarez Sande led from start to finish as she was dominant in posting a 6-3, 6-0 win over Hannah Viller Moeller, ranked 39th in the most recent poll. After taking Stanford's Connie Ma, ranked No. 10, to a third-set tiebreaker Friday, the sophomore from Coruna, Galicia, Spain, capitalized on every opportunity as she picked up WSU's lone win.
 
Cal jumped out quick to begin the match by taking doubles wins on Courts 1 and 3 for the opening point. On Court 3, Cal's Tiziana-Marie Schomburg and Berta Passola Folch defeated Hania Abouelsaad and Martina Markov, 6-1. Moments later, The Bears' No.1 duo of Viller Moeller and Mao Mushika, ranked No. 22 nationally, completed a 6-1 win over Alvarez Sande for to clinch the doubles point. At No. 2, WSU's Yura Nakagawa and Fifa Kumhom were down a break to Jessica Alsola and Katja Wiersholm, 2-4, when the match was stopped.
 
In singles play, the Cougars gave Cal all it wanted as wo matches went three sets and another went down to the wire. After taking the doubles point, Cal extended its lead to 2-0 as Lan Mi defeated Markov, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6. Alvarez Sande cut the lead in half with her victory before Cal made it 33-1 as Wiersholm completed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Tse at No. 2.
 
The remaining three matches were tight as Alsola, ranked No. 72, escaped with a 6-, 6-4 win over Nakagawa at No. 3. Passola Folch rallied from a set down to defeat Abouelsaad 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 while Mao held off a late-charging Kumhom at No. 4, winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
 
The Cougars conclude their regular-season schedule Friday when they host Washington as part of Senior Day.
