Cougars Drop Boeing Apple Cup Series Finale in Seattle

SEATTLE (March 30, 2024) – Washington State dropped an 11-5 decision to Washington in The Boeing Apple Cup Series finale at Husky Ballpark Saturday afternoon. The Cougars won Thursday's opener 4-0 but the Huskies won the final two games to claim the series.

WSU (16-11, 6-6 Pac-12) saw leadoff hitter Max Hartman double twice, second baseman Crew Parke added two hits and centerfielder Alan Shibley homered.

UW improved to 8-12-1 overall and 3-6 in conference play after scoring twice in the second, four in the fourth and pulled away with four runs in the eighth inning.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
UW took the early lead with a two-run double in the second inning but Max Hartman and Jacob Morrow put the Cougars on the board with back-to-back doubles in the fourth inning. UW pushed their lead to 6-1 with an opposite-field three-run home run to right field in their half of the fourth.

In the fifth, Hartman doubled home a pair of runs but UW answered again with an RBI-single in the bottom of the inning.

In the seventh inning, Jack Weise worked a walk and Parke followed with a long RBI-double to left-centerfield to make it a three-run game. With runners on first and second and two outs, UW went to the bullpen and ended the threat with a fielder's choice groundout to third base.

UW pulled away in their half the seventh, taking advantage of four walks and a couple WSU miscues to plate four runs in the frame and pushed the lead to 11-4.

Shibley led off the eighth with a solo home run to centerfield.
