Cheptoo's school record caps day one at the Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif — Freshman distance runner Zenah Cheptoo ran a program record 15:52.35 to place 11th in the fastest heat of the women's 5,000m run, Jasneet Nijjar placed third in the women's 400m dash (54.43), and Washington State men's and women's track and field teams saw four sprinters qualify for day-two finals on Friday, the opening day of the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Maribel Caicedo (13.30) and Micaela De Mello (13.40) finished first and second, respectively, in the women's 100m hurdles prelims to take the top two qualifying spots into Saturday's final which is scheduled for 3:02 p.m.  Skyler Walton will also return to the track Saturday afternoon for the women's 100m dash finals after qualifying with the top spot on Friday with a time of 11.92.  Mason Lawyer will represent the Cougars in the men's 100m dash after clocking a 10.51 to finish third in Friday's men's prelims.

Freshman pole vaulter Tatum Moku narrowly missed a spot in the top-10 all-time at WSU, winning the event Friday at Angell Field after being the lone competitor to clear 3.94m/ 12' 11".  Washington State's top throws finishes from Friday included Maxwell Moore's final mark of 50.93m to place third in the men's collegiate discus, as well as a third-place finish in the men's hammer throw from Caden Hottman (59.70m).
