Hartman’s Six RBI Paces Cougar Victory at UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (March 13, 2024)Max Hartman drove in six runs and Joey Kramer tallied four hits in Washington State's 11-3 victory over UC Riverside at the Riverside Sports Complex Wednesday evening.
 
Six Cougars (9-6) drove in a run led by Hartman who recorded WSU's first six-RBI game since Jonah Advincula drove in eight against UC Riverside last season in Peoria on opening weekend. Kramer homered, recorded a career-high four hits and scored three times, Hartman also had three hits and stole a base to back starting pitcher Kevin Haynes who earned the win with five strikeouts in five scoreless innings. Haynes allowed just two hits while posting career-highs in innings and strikeouts in his first start as a Cougar after transferring from Sacramento State.
 
WSU scored three times in the second inning and later scored in four straight innings to back Haynes' scoreless effort. Catcher Will Cresswell also singled, drove in a run and scored a career-high three runs.
 
UC Riverside dropped to 9-9.
 
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
In the second, the Cougars loaded the bases with a pair of singles and a UCR error before Hartman cleared the bases with a three-run double down the right field line. WSU added two more in the fourth inning on a Cresswell RBI-single back up the middle and Hartman made it 5-0 with a run-scoring sacrifice fly to right field.
 
Haynes worked out of the jam to strand two Highlanders in the fourth before Kramer hammered a solo home run to left centerfield in the fifth to push the lead to 6-0. Haynes retired the side in order in the fifth before giving way to the Cougar bullpen. An inning later, the Cougars loaded the bases for Hartman who muscled a two-run single into centerfield to push the lead to 8-0.
 
In the seventh, WSU pulled away with three runs in the inning on a Cole Cramer RBI-single to centerfield, a rocket RBI-double to left field by Nate Swarts and a Crew Parke run-scoring sacrifice fly.
