Cougs record multiple top-10 times to open split weekend in Seattle and Spokane

SEATTLE / SPOKANE, Wash. — Brian Barsaiya ran a personal-best 13:53.0 in the men's 5,000m run, the third-fastest indoor time in program history, and Zenah Cheptoo improved on her 3,000m school record with a time of 9:06.98, as Washington State men's and women's track and field teams competed in the first of two days at both the Husky Classic and the Whitworth Invitational Friday.

Barsaiya's 10th-place finish at the Dempsey Indoor Center was the top finish of the night for the Cougars to open the Husky Classic.  Back on the East side at The Podium, Eva Lowder narrowly missed a would-be-WSU record at 4.36m, finishing with a final mark of 4.23m to win the women's pole vault, while Caden Hottman took the runner-up spot to begin the two-day Whitworth Invitational.

Laura Lindquist began the day at The Podium for WSU with a PR of 14.20m in the women's weight throw. Tatum Moku finished runner-up in the women's pole vault behind her fellow freshman Cougar teammate, and Madisyn Negro reached a new PR after clearing 3.72m.

The Cougars will wrap up both meets on Saturday, with events set to pick up beginning at 9 a.m. at both The Podium and the Dempsey Indoor.
