Cougars Share Scoring in 100-92 Win over Vikings

Box Score PULLMAN, Wash. (Nov. 4, 2024) -- The Washington State men's basketball team defeated Portland State, 100-92, Monday night, at Beasley Coliseum.
 
Big Picture: Washington State moves to 1-0 on the season and remains undefeated in-home season openers.
 
Player Performances: Cedric Coward finished with a game high 23 points on 7-12 shooting while also grabbing 12 rebounds for his 10th career double-double. Nate Calmese finished with 17 points while nailing three triples and dishing out a career-high five assists. Ethan Price scored 16 and grabbed seven rebounds. Isaiah Watts added a career high 20 points with four 3-pointers off the bench.
 
Between the Lines: After a slow start that saw them down 21-4, the Cougars offense found its rhythm. The Cougs finished the game shooting 53% from the field and 47% from three and all five starters eclipsed double digit points.
 
Turning point: After Portland State jumped out to a 21-5 lead, Isaiah Watts nailed a transition three to spark a 29-7 run by the Cougars to capture the lead. A pair of triples from Erikstrup and Isaiah Watts helped fuel the run and Wazzu did not concede the lead again.
 
Coach Riley's Comments: "Once we settled in, it was fun to watch our guys score the ball offensively, and we got some work to do on the other side," Riley said postgame. "Overall, I think it was a good first game."
