PULLMAN, Wash. (August 17, 2024) – Washington State Football closed out preseason practice with a scrimmage at Gesa Field Saturday evening.

The Cougar offense scored five touchdowns throughout the evening while the defense recorded seven sacks and picked off three passes. Running backs Dylan Paine and Leo Pulalasi each scored on one-yard touchdown runs before redshirt-freshman quarterback Jaxon Potter threw a pair of touchdown passes, the first going for 19 yards to Leon Neal Jr. and the second to tight end Trey Leckner from 20 yards out. The offense capped the evening with quarterback Hunter Najm finding wideout Mackenzie Alleyne in the back of the endzone for a two-yard score.
 
The defense made big plays throughout the evening as Kapena Gushiken, Kenny Worthy III and Ethan O'Connor each picked off passes in the end zone. Edge Raam Stevenson paced the pass rush with 2.5 sacks.
 
Kick Dean Janikowski connected on four of his five field goal attempts, hitting from 52, 37 and 41 yards twice.
