Cougars Travel to Corvallis for OSU High Performance Meet

PULLMAN, Wash. —  Washington State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams compete in the final pre-championship meet of the 2024 season this Friday and Saturday as the teams travel to the Whyte Track and Field Center in Corvallis, Ore., for the two-day Oregon State High Performance Meet.  The Cougars are coming off of a successful Cougar Classic Invitational that saw WSU post a pair of school records and now head into Corvallis with 80 total combined track times and field marks that rank in the top-48 of the NCAA West Region rankings.

PULLMAN, Wash. —  Washington State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams compete in the final pre-championship meet of the 2024 season this Friday and Saturday as the teams travel to the Whyte Track and Field Center in Corvallis, Ore., for the two-day Oregon State High Performance Meet.  The Cougars are coming off of a successful Cougar Classic Invitational that saw WSU post a pair of school records and now head into Corvallis with 80 total combined track times and field marks that rank in the top-48 of the NCAA West Region rankings.

All four of Washington State's relay teams also rank in the top-24 of the West Region rankings, positioning themselves favorably to earn a spot in the NCAA First and Second Rounds with only two meets remaining before this year's outdoor championships.  Only two weeks out from this season's Pac-12 Outdoor Championships, the Cougars own 32 individual times and marks that rank in the top-10 of the conference rankings, including a trio of Cougars that own the top spot in their respective events.

Last Time Out - Cougar Classic Invitational

Maribel Caicedo lowered the Washington State school record and the Ecuadorian National record in 100m hurdles, finishing in an impressive 12.85 seconds, and Eva Lowder finished the day by breaking the women's pole vault record, clearing 4.26m to cap off a record-setting day at the Cougar Classic from Mooberry Track last Saturday.

Laura Lindquist (46.65m/ 153' 0") and Blake Sturgis (63.18m/ 207' 3") both took first place in the men's and women's javelin, respectively, while Ben Chappell (62.22m/ 204' 1") finished first in the men's hammer throw. Neveah Wilson (47.07m) later earned home her second win of the season with a personal best in discus, and Ronald Grueso Mosquera followed up with a season-best 52.39m throw to win the men's competition. 

Maribel CaicedoBrooke LyonsJasneet Nijjar, and Skyler Walton (44.55) combined to clock the third-fastest time in Cougar history, a winning time in Saturday's 4x100 relay. Walton followed up with a school record in the women's 100m dash, clocking a winning time of 11.48, and John Paredes finished with the second-best 110m hurdles time in program history, winning the event with a time of 13.42. Paredes' winning time was the fastest time in the Pac-12 this season, the ninth-fastest in the nation, and was enough to earn the sophomore from Cali, Colombia, his first-career Pac-12 Athlete of the Week honors as announced by the league office Tuesday.

Washington State's track and field teams will see a one-week break from its competition schedule next week as they prep for the 2024 Pac-12 Championships from Potts Field in Boulder, Colo., on May 10-12.  This year's NCAA West Region First and Second Rounds will be hosted in Fayetteville, Ark., with the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships returning to the Pacific Northwest at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., from June 5-8.
